...YOU HAVE NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION.

Well this is a first for me...it's fanart for fanvideos...sort of...

If you are a fan of Batman and The Dark Knight movie in particular I highly encourage you to check out The Joker Blogs at [link] The acting is awesome and the writing is top notch. The series picks up after the movie and chronicles the The Joker's therapy sessions at Arkham as videotaped by Dr. Harleen Quinzel (who later becomes, of course, Harley Quinn).

Now, a psychiatrist becoming obsessed with her patient and eventually springing him from the asylum and turning to a life of crime is fine if it's in the realm of cartoons. But like the Nolan movieverse, these fanvideos are grounded in reality and therefore ten times more unsettling. I've found myself genuinely creeped out and unnerved by some of the sessions.

Harley herself is never shown on camera (I'm sure that will change). And although this guy's portrayal of The Joker is mesmerizing I find myself equally intrigued by her-- probably because she's not the focus. She's not the crazy zany henchwench from the cartoons, that's for sure. She seems a little overly ambitious and petty at times, but she hasn't gone off the deep end (yet).

I envision this scene taking place sometime before the most recent episode. She's starting to realize things are spiraling out of control, but by now it's already too late. In my head she's not a habitual smoker but might sneak out of bed in the middle of the night for cig if she's stressed. Guy probably doesn't know.

And the title of the piece comes from my favorite part of Radiohead's song "2+2=5".

Stellar work, hands down! :horns:

I've actualy only barely heard of the Joker blogs, and for now, I'm actualy going to avoid them, only because a couple friends and I have been putting together a couple 'batman' fan films and what not, and I don't want anyone else's art to influence me in a way that i'd accidently steal or become overwhelmed with it. I'm sure i'll get around to it though.

Thanks!

Definitely check them out when you feel like it's safe.

I love Harley Quinn, but to put her character into a Nolan world makes the whole story pretty dark...sort of a Hannibal Lector/Clarice Starling dynamic. I didn't put that book on her shelf, though...too obvious.

Have you ever read 'Hannibal?' The ending is very different than what you see in the movie and more appropriate to the vibe you're going for.

Fantastic piece. Two thumbs and a toe UP! WAY UP.

Thanks! I had fun putting things on her wall and shelves that might interest her. The original version also had the batsignal in the sky until I remembered everyone hates Batman now and they smashed it.

And I did read Hannibal a long time ago...now THAT is the definition Creepy!Romance. I do love villains...safely within the confines of my computer screen, of course;-)
:icontinhuviel:
HA! Well, I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to Hannibal and Clarice (weeding out the Free Range Rude), so I really appreciated your comparison. BTW, check out TJB.com here in a couple... You're on the front page now.

Oh yes! That's so true to the spirit of what's happening in TheJokerBlogs. I can just picture this happening. Wonderful piece and I just love, love all the little details around the room, especially the bridal mag sort of looking discarded on the floor. Hmmmm...could it be she is not so interested anymore in her BIG day?
:iconarafel3873:
Thank you so much-- that's awesome!!

The Hannibal/Clarice comparison is a good one. And I love their scenes in the Silence of the Lambs movie...HIS PIERCING EYES.

I'm going to poke around on the site now...:-)
:iconarafel3873:
Thanks!

Yeah...I think she's trying to get excited about the big day but keeps finding herself thinking about...other things.

I would love if someone eventually did a counterpoint to the series that showed her reaction to what was going on.

GUH I LOVE YOU & I LOVE THIS PIECE!! I've totally become enamored with Harleen from TJB as well...especially for one moment in An Apple a Day (when she gives Mr. J the fork) and in most of Artistic Merit where I think we really get to know more about her. This picture has so much depth and I adore all the little details (she seems to be avoiding her family, and possibly even Guy, and her wedding mags are on the floor...she owns House of Leaves and A Clockwork Orange!!!) and I especially love her pose, as though she just can't wrap her head around her obsession, though logically she knows how wrong it is, she can't deny what she feels in her heart. Plz say you'll do more, as this is actually filling in TJB --GAP-- for me. YOU ROCK!!
